Criminal appeal Solicitors

A wrongful conviction or disproportionately long prison sentence can have a devastating impact on your life.

The criminal justice system relies on people making decisions based on the evidence provided. But the evidence can be complex and the system isn’t infallible.

If you’ve been convicted of an offence you didn’t commit or sentenced in a way that doesn’t reflect the offence you committed, you may have the right to an appeal.

Instructing the right criminal appeal solicitors will give you the best chance of getting your conviction overturned or your sentence reduced.

Submitting a criminal appeal

You can appeal against a Crown Court conviction, sentence or both, whether you pleaded guilty or not guilty.

Your legal team should advise you on whether you have grounds for an appeal and whether an appeal is likely to be successful. If they believe you have grounds for an appeal, they will prepare the necessary paperwork and send it to the court where you were tried/sentenced.

The court will then forward the appeal application to the appellate court in London, who will decide if the appeal can go ahead.

Your appeal application should usually be submitted within 28 days of your conviction/ sentencing date. But there can be exceptions to that in certain circumstances.
