Not Guilty – Murder

Harewood Law represented the only defendant of seven to be acquitted in a joint enterprise murder at Leeds Crown Court after a seven-week trial. Seven males were charged with murder after an initial large-scale disorder took place at an address on Dewsbury Moor. It was alleged that the feud then continued, and the group of seven males then planned and pursued the deceased to Crow’s Nest Park. It was said by the prosecution that members of the group then attacked the deceased with a wide array of weapons including baseball bats, hockey sticks and a knife. This culminated in extensive injuries and murder.  The case involved extensive CCTV, phone evidence, cell site and a complex family dynamic. The principle of joint enterprise was pivotal to the prosecution case. The prosecution case from the outset was, that all defendants played a role in the murder and all were equally responsible.

Four defendants were convicted of murder; two defendants were convicted of manslaughter with only Harewood Law’s client being unanimously acquitted of murder and manslaughter.

Sajad Chaudhury of Harewood Law instructed Geraldine Kelly KC and Chloe Hudson both of New Park Court Chambers.
